777, 787, what the difference? Hope that this new 777x would turn a profit for Boeing whose management greed caused them to lose money big time on the 737max. I would fly the 777x as a passenger knowing that they were painstakingly built by the men and women of Everett, WA and nowhere else. 737max fate is sealed would not fly in it even if it's a free ride. Airbus is just waiting for Boeing to make another slip up and they would take a bite on Boeing's market share. Hate to see a great US company to fall down because of it's corporate culture of too much greed in exchange for cost cutting measures that makes every aircraft it builts unsafe to fly as the case of the 737max.

I'm confused. For years we've been told. 1. The winglets provide extra lift & reduce noise by preventing wingtip vortexes. 2. The jagged edge on the engine assists to reduce noise, by reducing turbulence where the jet output meets the air. aka 737MAX This new aircraft has neither. Why don't those technologies count anymore?

Anthony Pisculli not unless they can sell it. The customers want a single aisle jet to replace both the 757 and 767. The 797 is just an idea on paper and won’t be ready for 10 years if Boeing decides to spend 25 billion dollars to design and build it.

737 MAX will never be safe with any software fix! Boeing's solution is just more simulator trainings!

  73. Appable

    Appableپیش 26 روز

Supreme Overlord That’s exactly what I said. 737 MAX has two sensors, and MCAS uses the on-side sensor. Mot sure what you’re disagreeing with.

  74. Supreme Overlord

    Supreme Overlordپیش 26 روز

@Appable How many AOA sensors does a 737 Max have? Although every 737 has two exterior AOA sensors, one on each side of the cockpit, Boeing designed MCAS to take a signal from only one of them on any given flight, switching to the other sensor on the next flight. However, the AOA failures in each crash appear to have different causes.Aug 20, 2019 You sure work for Boeing, don't you?

  75. Appable

    Appableپیش 26 روز

@Supreme Overlord 737 MAX has two. MCAS used the on-side angle of attack sensor, as do the SYMDs and most systems in 737 (it's a dual-dual architecture). There is no military version of 737 MAX. At any rate, that wasn't relevant to the original claim that "737 MAX will never be safe with any software fix".

  76. Supreme Overlord

    Supreme Overlordپیش 26 روز

@Appable Airbus A320 has 3 AOA sensors, whereas 737 MAX only has one. The military version has 2. Go figure! LOL

  77. Appable

    Appableپیش 26 روز

That article is clearly written by a software developer because it's completely wrong. When he says "dynamic instability" he means "static instability" (dynamic has to do with damping rate of oscillating modes) and 737 MAX is not statically unstable (it has maneuvering stability issues which is approximately related to the derivative of the static margin with angle of attack). While instability is not common, most modern planes (A350, A380, 777, 787) have significantly relaxed static stability. Contrary to his claim, all modern FBW aircraft have a decent amount of 'bells and whistles' in that their control forces are mapped to pitch rate and airspeed rather than actual control surface deflection. The author asserts incorrectly that inclusion of MCAS in training would affect the common type rating - it would not. The author is wrong in asserting 737 has any form of envelope protection... I'm going to just go ahead and say the author is wrong about a lot here.
