Some Dealerships Suck - GM Edition

In this video I fix a 2017 Chevrolet Colorado with only 14,000 miles on it and it was less than 2 weeks out of warranty. However when the customer took it into the dealer to be looked at it was less than ONE WEEK OUT! I guess the rules are the rules but you know dang well if it was some "big important person" the dealership would have bent over backwards for the guy even if it was out of warranty by a few days. -Enjoy!

    At the risk of being repetitive, gm cable management is weak. Holy shit, this thing has lots of wire, what should we do. Ah, let the new guy figure it out. I'm sorry, I thought you said 100 bones for a pigtail connector. I will get my ears checked.

    I’ve had to deal with a bad Honda dealership in Albuquerque NM. I love my Honda vehicles. But, Had bad recall work. Never ever buying anything from them again! Two weeks later I purchase a 2020 Ford pickup!

    I still hold a grudge against the Toyota dealer just down the street from my house when they tried to screw me 8 years ago over $500. Since then, I've purchased 2 Toyotas from the dealer 15 miles away because those guys treated me right from the first time I stepped into their showroom.

    Good use for roach clips. And Chevrolet dealerships do suck, I had to bring back a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox for excessive oil consumption they said yeah we know what the problem is but you have to bring it up here for the next 3000 miles every thousand miles. So Chevrolet can see that is using oil there were more people in the service department getting their vehicles repaired then they were customers out front wanting to buy a car. I'm talkin Corvettes Camaros, trucks Chevrolet suck

    Dealerships don't suck. Manufactors suck. I work at a detroit area ford dealership we do everything we can for our customers. If a car is 1 day out of warranty ford will not pay for the repair.

    I've spliced ABS wires on occasion. I live in Southern Ontario, so salt everywhere too. When striping the wires I've seen corroded copper because salt water penetrated the smallest cracks in the insulation, so I had to keep going up the wire till the copper was good. With this in mind when i splice and solder I coat the wire and shrink wrap with silicon goo before I wrap with tape... Any salt water that gets in that splice and you'll be redoing it the next spring.

    I've never bought a car from a dealership and I never will. I think I'll always look for used vehicles from responsible owners and excellent repairers like yourself :) Edit: just got an ad from a local BMW dealer at the end of this video. No shade to South Main, but this algorithm is garbage if it thinks I'm watching car repair videos wishing for a new BMW, instead of trying to learn secret spooky mechanic's tricks. Channels like this are why I enjoy IRgos, they flatten the world and give me access to knowledge that will improve my life in a very direct and immediate way.

    I am the 3rd owner of a 2008 Toyota Tundra. I had one of my air pumps fail in 2015. Toyota said they think it was a manufacturing issue and replaced both pumps and something else that they said could fail because of the related issue. It was going to be 1800$ and they fully covered it. Everything breaks, but it was very nice that they took care of me that time.

    I have a 2016 Toyota Avalon after I bought it, I began to notice that excessive noise was coming from the front suspension on each side of the car. I took it to the dealer several times. I complained to the personnel, that there was something wrong with the front suspension. They kept telling me that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. Well, they kept doing this until it ran out of warranty- then they admitted there was a problem to the tune of $1200. I told them to forget it and took the vehicle to another shop to get it repaired. I will not EVER go back to them for service of any kind!

    Eric, I agree with your assessment of dealerships, "been there- done that, do not want to go back". My experience is the same, dealers just do not give a s_ _ t about their customers. I think they are always chasing the all mighty dollar!!

    I work for Chrysler and we've good willed transmissions and engines . This case would've been handled . Cause it wouodnt take long to fix and as you said . The customer will appreciate it and get the word out.

    Sales sells you your first vehicle and the service dept. sells you the next vehicle ( maybe ). The owner should have complained to the Service Mgr. if no satisfaction there he should have asked to have the Regional Service rep. get involved. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

    Chevy do suck there is a problem with the 2008-2012 Malibu’s passenger side headlight harness with every 3 months u are replacing wire harness because the low beam socket keeps melting over 2500 Malibu’s are having these problems Chevy is clueless of why this keep happening

    Great video but I have a question. It looks like the problem was a broken wire. Why didn't you just patch in a new section of wire saving your customer $100 for that part? You wound up having to solder a couple of connections anyway. Your labor would have been the same.

    @South Main Auto Repair LLC I would have stripped off what was left of the short wire, soldered on a new wire, applied heat shrink tubing, and called it a day. You might believe such a repair wouldn't be good enough for your shop. I think it would have been fine but I also think it's a judgment call here. Had the part been $3, I would have done exactly what you did. The $100 cost of the stupid part would have persuaded me to repair, rather than replace. Make no mistake about it. I thoroughly enjoy your videos and I can't fault you for going the extra mile when it comes to repairs. Keep up the great work and the even greater attitude!

    it was broke almost next to the connector, within 1/4" I would have had to disassemble the connector, buy the pin, buy the crimping tool and the weather pack seal and then shorten both of them to be the same length assuming there was enough wire in the harness.

    Have lots of bad experiences with the gym dealer, have since found a good mechanic that had worked for the same gm dealer that now has his own shop.

    This dealer should have done it or at least offered to split it with the customer. Mechanic needs to be paid. My 2016 GMC Yukon Denali XL with just over 60k in mileage had a leak in the AC condenser, very common problem in Tahoe, Suburban & Yukons. GM is aware of the problem and has updated the part. Should be a recall. Before I installed a new one I called my dealer and he checked with GM and they offered to install one for $450. I thought it was a pretty fare deal. Normally parts and labor at dealer is almost 1k. I went ahead and did it myself in about 2 hours. I installed a new GM condenser and it was reinforced where the old one leaked. Thanks for the videos!     Greetings from Wellsville again. I used to love my GM's my 2500HD is an 03 and even back then they seem to have lacked in quality but the thing never lets me down here in the salt belt. Working at a shop and owning older GM's most of my customers ask if that's what I recommend and I sadly have to say no because of this degrading trash they keep designing for us. How are we transitioning from reliability to liability? Shits asinine.

    Hi i think all dealer are out for them self. have a Honda 2016 the water stop working broke the belt and still had to pay $370 with extended warrant that cost $2,300 NO Honda next time.

    '05 Subaru Legacy. Brought it in at 58k for burning oil. They said it was fine. Brought it in1k later saying the oil is low again. 62k they decide it needs a motor. Service manager calls Subaru in front of me and tells them they need to eat this. They said to give me a rental, teardown the bottom end and wait for the rep. Subaru paid the tech to re-ring the engine and new bearings. It couldn't have been cheaper than just having him install a long block. 100k later the car was still running great.

    I took Honda CIVIC I had extended warranty for$2000; it was shifting harshly when cold. They said there is no problem with the car, pay $125 for check up. I never came back there and never bought another dumb extended insurance

    My 2010 Silverado had some weird defects when it was almost brand new. Nothing major, just annoying. The transmission dipstick tube was defective and it rattled like crazy. The chrome bumper covers started corroding within the first year, and the Chevy bowtie on the tailgate discolored and flaked. The dealer repaired all three under warranty but he said they would only repair them once. If the chrome rusted again or the bowtie emblam flaked away they would not repair them more than once even if the warranty was still in effect! As it turns out the new parts were fine but it would have been interesting to see what would have happened if they failed again.

    I retired from a Honda motorcycle dealership and started my own business. Partnered with 2 other investors.... I ran the service Department, one other ran the parts and the other partner ran the sales department. What I learned from Honda is this: A GOOD customer experience from a dealership results in 3 potential word of mouth discussions. A BAD customer experience results in 11 word of mouth discussions. So.... you treat someone good they tell 3 people but treat a customer bad and they tell the world!!! Doesn't matter if it's the parts department, sales, or service department.... treat the customer poorly and that customer will spread the word.
