Well y’all used pine which is a soft wood. Home Depot’s wood selection isn’t the greatest (I would know, I worked there for years) a hard wood that was better centered probably would have stood up decently.

Fill a water butt with diet coke. Leave a hole in the top you can ad the mentos and have a valve on the bottom to release the pressure out the back of the boot and push it along. Make sure you can seal up the top hole quick after adding the mentos

A piece of hickory turned down on a lathe would make this doable.. maybe not for clutch dump. But driving on the farm for sure at least until the temp changes and it starts slipping

USE A LATHE the reason why it isnt centred is because when u shaved down the wood to attach the joint end it isnt exactly a circle, thus yoour drive shaft ends are not aligned anymore. and u can also shave down the corners as that will probably help aswell....

That was just a pine 4x4 ... use a hardwood piece & carve it round on a lathe . ( 2 min. ) Forget the glue & lag bolts , use a bunch of small screws ... much more purchase on the wood . Won't hold up to a hole-shot , but would probably drive ok . :)

This was really funny. I think if you want a wood driveshaft to succeed, your best bet is to balance (maybe turn it on a lathe?) and then wrap the outside in a layer or two of fiberglass and cure with some epoxy resin. Your joints were plenty strong compared the wood so what you want to reinforce is the resistance to the beam twist. I would suggest using a really strong hardwood for that to help as well.

I wondered that multiple times: What if you used ROPE as a Driveshaft? I mean Dremel and pther rotary tools use steelropes as flexible "driveshafts" so maybe a good thicc climbing rope or a rope you tuck boats with should work too. Sorry or my bad english and greetings from germany
